How do I know if I have existing hardwired alarms?

  • If your existing smoke alarms have the wording “240V” on the back of the alarm they are likely to be hardwired.
  • If there are cables coming out of the back of the alarm into the roof cavity they are likely to be hardwired alarms.
  • Pro Tip: Search the model number online to see if it is a hardwired alarm.

If in doubt always check with a licensed electrician.

What should I do now that I have existing hardwired alarms?

We stock a brand called GT High Performance Smoke Alarms.  They have both a hardwired and 10-year battery version that can interconnect together!

This way you can replace your existing hardwired alarms with GT hardwired alarms and use GT 10-year battery alarms for remaining smoke alarms you may need.  This has worked out to be a very cost effective solution for many of our customers!

Please note, an electrician will be required to install GT hardwired smoke alarms.
